Launching a Supper Club for Makers

Monday 13th January was the launch of our Meet the Makers Supper Club. When Greg initially thought of the idea of a weeknight meet up as a result of comments made from the craft community that some folks would not be able make it to our monthly Knit and Stitch Social on a Saturday.

So the Supper Club was born to encompass not only knitters and crocheters but also to include all domains of the craft community.

Greg reached out to Shannon at La Caverna, and a menu with 3 meat  and 3 vegetarian/ vegan options was created.

6 of us, an intimate number, enjoying the lovely meal at La Caverna.
We were not only knitters. We were crocheters, dollmakers, dressmakers, knitting instructor, sewists, patchwork quilters, yarnshop owner…. we were a creative and talented group of Makers.

I am delighted to announce there we will be doing it again!

Meet the Makers Supper Club

Hi Everyone,

The Meet the Maker social event is a trial to see if there’s interest in a monthly evening dinner social that welcomes all makers whether it’s crochet, embroidery,  knitting, paper crafting, sewing etc. It’s a chance for those who prefer an evening for meeting up with like minded makers.

Greg and I are organising this trial supper club at La Caverna Restaurant to socialise over a lovely dinner of your choice from a select menu at a very good price. The supper club is not for profit. The amount you pay is simply to cover the cost of your meal plus gratuity and sum up fee.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

Tickets are available here

If you attend the monthly Saturday knitting socials, you will know what to expect. If you are new and have any questions,  please feel free to write to us at:

The Dublin Knitwork

Hello!

I’ve gained some new followers and I would like to re-introduce myself here.

My name is Diane, and I’m originally from the city of Mississauga, Ontario and moved to Dublin in 2006.

I learned the basics of sewing in high school and learned how to knit from my classmates in college.

I call myself a Social Knitworker, because I enjoy networking and welcoming knitters to our CommuniKnitty.

I created a social media profile as Dublin Knitwork as a means to share who, what and where mainly in and around Dublin.

I still write the odd blogpost here.

Since September 2023, my other half @themurphyleaf and I decided to revive and rebrand the Temple Stitch n Bitch as the Dublin Knit and Stitch Social.

We currently plan and organise a monthly event where knitters/crocheters come together  to eat, drink, and make, as well as doing our part to support the local and independently owned restaurants and cafes in Dublin.

@themurphyleaf is currently behind the scene, planning the annual Knitmas Party….watch this space!

Knit & Stitch Social 2024

It is a new year of Knit & Stitch Socials.

I am extremely fortunate to be able to use the Mezzanine of the IFI Cafe Bar once a month. As it is in the city centre, this is an excellent venue for knitters and crocheters to meet.

Although I am the host for these socials, my other half is the event planner and organiser.

January is a long month, so we choose to keep things cheap and cheerful with tea, coffee, mini cakes and pastries.

Enjoying the auditory, visual and tactile pleasures of knitworking alongside some incredible makers is an incredible experience.

In the coming week or so, I will make an announcement regarding our next Knit & Stitch Social.

Keep an eye on my Instagram, @diane.villamaker for the most recent updates.

Socktober 2023: Becoming a Sock Knitter

**Disclaimer** I personally purchased this book this past year. I am not affliated with the author, publisher or yarnshop. This is not a sponsored post.

I love knitting and wearing handknit socks.

There is nothing like a handknit pair of socks, made with your special skein of 4 ply / sock yarn.

When I heard that my LYS were taking pre-orders for Ready Set Socks by Rachel Coopey, I jumped outta my shoes and submitted my order.

When I received the book, I quickly flicked through it. I’m really like the general layout of the book, which is geared for knitters who want to be Sock Knitters.

Starting off by choosing the knitting needles and yarn, then straight into the nitty gritty of top down sock basics.

I like the way the book is written, and typeface/font is easy to read.

There are 10 top down sock patterns which range from simple to interestingly challenging for Sock Knitters at any level. However,

There are tutorials on the variations in the cuffs and heels which appealed to my sense of adventure.

At this time, not one particular pattern is calling out to me. However, I do like that there is a hashtag for each sock. So, when I have more online time I will start looking thru the hashtags on IG to get some inspiration.

Overall, Pompom published a good reference book for Sock Knitters and any knitter who is curious about the Sock knitting experience.
